Review: Troubled Coast- Letters

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Troubled Coast's newest album Letters combines elements of pop punk, post hardcore and tons of melody to create a very interesting sound that I find to work well. This album has parts ranging from Pop Punk, Melodic Hardcore and even elements that remind me of Verse and La Dispute. The lyrical content is written in poetic form along with much pasion in Mike Scornaienchi's vocal delivery. This album is riddled with many suprises from folky/ acoustic songs, heavy melodic hardcore, pop punk influenced and post hardcore influenced tunes that will get stuck in your head. The song Absent Father, Holy Ghost really stands out the most in the midst of all the songs for it starting off slow and somber then picking up and ending up in an acoustic ballad, yet it is the lyrics in the song that really stand out. I would recomend this to anyone who has been into the "Wave" movement of bands like: La Dispute, Touche Amore, Defeater, Make Do and Mend along with such acts like Verse, Killing the Dream. Honestly there is a stretch in there but I'm sure someone can find something they like within this album.

FFO: La Dispute, Verse, Make Do and Mend
